The Real Clean recently sat down with Sharon Best, owner and lead cleaning technician at Spruced Up, to discuss their impressive work at Brampton Primary School. Known for their expertise in deep cleaning, Spruced Up was approached by the school following a successful classroom project the previous year.
The Real Clean: Sharon, we’ve seen some remarkable photos of your team cleaning at Brampton Primary School. How did this project come about?
Sharon Best: It all started last year when we cleaned one of their classrooms. staff were so pleased with the results that they invited us back for a more extensive project this year.
The Real Clean: Can you walk us through your initial approach to this larger project?
Sharon Best: Absolutely. We began with a pre-clean survey, where I walked through the school with the facilities manager. This allowed us to assess both the carpeted corridors and the hard floor areas, particularly the older blue safety flooring in the cloakroom. From there, we developed a tailored cleaning strategy for each area.
The Real Clean: What considerations were important during this project?
Sharon Best: One key aspect was ensuring we adhered to the school’s access times during the school holidays . We started at 9:30 AM and were finishing by 3:00 PM. To meet this timeframe, we brought in addition to give Spruced Up a team of three and we followed a meticulous process. Thorough vacuuming was crucial, especially for the encapsulation cleaning method we used on the carpets.
The Real Clean: For our readers unfamiliar with encapsulation cleaning, could you explain it briefly?
Sharon Best: Certainly. Encapsulation cleaning involves applying a specialized solution that surrounds and isolates dirt particles in the carpet fibers. Once the solution dries, the encapsulated dirt is easily removed through routine vacuuming. This method is efficient and effective for maintaining carpet appearance.
The Real Clean: We noticed your team uses specific equipment during cleaning. Could you tell us more about that?
Sharon Best: We’ve invested in the latest rotary machines, which are excellent for covering large areas like school corridors efficiently. Rotary cleaning is particularly effective for commercial carpet tiles, but it requires the right equipment to achieve optimal results. For agitation, we use double-sided Zebra Agitation Pads. These are ideal for working encapsulation products into the carpet fibers and ensuring deep cleaning.
The Real Clean: How do you handle the hard floor areas, such as the safety flooring in the cloakroom?
Sharon Best: The safety flooring required a robust approach. We applied a strong alkaline cleaner, followed by rotary scrubbing with Zeus . Then, we used a hard floor scrub wand with pressure water / vacuum extraction, removing a lot of dirty water! It was labor-intensive but incredibly satisfying to see the transformation.
The Real Clean: It sounds like a demanding day. How did you manage to complete everything within the school’s timeframe?
Sharon Best: Teamwork and preparation were key. Elaine one of our experienced technicians, played a significant role in keeping us on track. By coordinating effectively and sticking to our process, we finished on time, much to the client’s satisfaction.
The Real Clean: Spruced Up is a local business, yet you handle substantial projects. How do you ensure you meet such demands?
Sharon Best: While we’re proud to be local, we’ve equipped ourselves with the knowledge, skills, and machinery to deliver top-tier cleaning services. Our flexibility and commitment to professional standards have earned us the trust of clients like Brampton Primary School and even larger commercial clients such as Pirelli.

We’re fully insured and ensure all our staff are trained to work efficiently and respectfully within such environments.
